Montreal July 2, 2008: One
knows for sure that a nation is in trouble when it begins to bestow its highest honours on
the most notorious of scoundrels.
Canada - it was announced yesterday- will name Dr. Henry Morgentaler - a mass abortionist
- to The Order Of Canada in April along with 75 other Canadians of note. He will receive
this distinction - usually reserved for those who have made significant contributions to
the nation during their careers- due to his championing the notion that women possess the
right to snatch their unborn babies from their wombs and snuff out their precious lives
before they get a chance to breathe a single breath.
This decision will generate a lot of controversy, and rightfully so. The Globe
and Mail reported that Dr. Morgentaler's appointment divided the advisory committee which
chooses the appointees. Maurice Vellacott, a Saskatchewan MP, told the paper most
appointees are chosen unanimously, but he heard that was not the case with Morgentaler's
appointment.
Regina MP Andrew Scheer expressed the feelings of many Canadians when he stated on CTV.ca
yesterday that "I can't believe that this was done on Canada Day, a day we should be
coming together."
"I think this actually debased the Order of Canada," he further stated.
A nation which looses all feeling for its most vulnerable, in this case the unborn, is
very close to destroying itself from within no matter what kind of lip service it plays to
asking God to "keep our land glorious and free."
Sadly, and ironically, it will be those leftists, who constantly and publicly weep over
the death of Iraqi babies and other innocents at the hands of US led coalition forces, who
will applaud this decision the loudest.
Gwen Landolt, co-founder of REAL Women of Canada, a conservative
group, stated it eloquently when she told the Christian web site LifeSiteNews that
"We have mostly left-wing feminists, homosexuals and environmentalists who previously
got in under the Liberals and they're merely going along appointing reflections of
themselves."
All life is sacred, including that which resides inside the mother's womb where we all
once resided for a time. Honouring those who kill the defenceless is plain sick. The
current Government of Canada - who has no say regarding who is named to the Order of
Canada- has done well to distance itself from this highly offensive decision.
