A Poem For My Dad
Shawn Smith- August 31, 2006
Oh just a few short days ago
Your time was up, you had to go
The hands that held me when I was sad
The scolding tongue when I was bad
I wish that you were here to stay
I wish you had not gone away
I wish you'd seen how I have grown
I have a family of my own
I look into my children's eyes
I see you there, you did not die
I am quite sure you'd swell with pride
Your loving arms, they'd open wide
And embrace me with your loving touch
Oh dad, I miss you very much
For you I offer up this prayer
God keep him in your tender care
Note: This poem is not about my father but was written for another person at my request in commeration of her father death 15 years ago.
