The Earthquake

Shawn Smith- June 13, 2007

I stood upon a solid rock
my feet they felt secure
No matter what may come my way
I was certain to endure

But then the ground beneath me
moved from its place of rest
My feeling of security
was surely put to test

My prior boast of confidence
came crashing to the ground
The strength that once I had in me
was nowhere to be found

My former solid anchor
crumbled into dust
My erstwhile place of security
no longer could I trust

As I lay upon the ground
no one to hear my plea
I asked myself the question
"where is man, and what is he?"

"A man standing on a rock my believe himself strong enough to stand there forever. But if an earthquake comes, where is he, what is he? - Hugh Maclennan - "The Watch That Ends The Night"
