Depositing
Into The Bank Of Eternity
Yahya Abdul Rahman- January 30, 2007
The actions which I take during the course of my
lifetime will determine where I spend eternity. It will not be Allah who will send me into
the abyss of eternal perdition, but it will be the outcome of my actions which I freely
chose to partake in. I will be in no position to blame Allah or those around me and this
will be made evidently clear when I stand before my Creator.
It is not my role in life to judge others or to force them to believe what I believe. Each
and every person has been endowed with a free-will and can choose their belief system. But
at the same time one must also be prepared to accept the consequences of those choices
which will have eternal consequences.
I am accustomed to accepting that if I work at something then I will get paid in some way,
either cash, some form of recognition, a good grade, a degree, a higher position, or some
other desired goal. In other words, my actions have a desired outcome and this is what
drives me to act.
Even so, the direction I choose to take in my life will also have an impact on my eternal
soul. In essence, I am depositing my deeds into the bank of eternity and will collect on
them later. They will eventually be presented before me and, depending on what I did
during my lifetime, will be a source of great sorrow or a source of great joy. The
unbelievers will pine over their condition when they see the reality of this and will say:
"Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future)
Life!" (Quran 89:24).
My deeds, in effect, never really dissipate but have gone on before me and I will collect
on them later. With this knowledge in mind I must pay close attention to the kinds of
deposits I am making into the bank of eternity and I begin this day by thanking Allah for
His many blessings with the hope that this good deed will be a source of joy when
eventually I stand naked and alone before Him.
