On Censorship
and Freedom Of Speech
by Yahya Abdul Rahman - December 5, 2007
If you don't like what I have to say then don't listen
to me.
As Walt Whitman stated in his Leaves Of Grass, "the dirtiest book of all is
the expurgated book."
No one wins when censorship takes over.
Either everyone is free to say and write what they want or no one is free.
When one is silenced for any reason, then all - in a sense - are silenced.
Freedom is either universal or non-existent, it cannot be both ways.
Don't tell me to keep quiet while reserving yourself the right to say what you want.
And finally, the best antidote to an objectionable opinion is a carefully crafted
counter-opinion and not a match stick or a noose.
